as only OBS can do to one
I survived OBS!
It rocked it sucked it rocked it sucked it rocked.
:D
Ultimately it rocked still and I miss OBS so much now D:(But damn the mosquitoes and sandflies and whatever insects that bit me, I HATE YOU!)
I didn't know I had it in me to go through hardship, to control my emotions, to comfort others, to work as a BARKER, to handle the dirt and stench of rotting shoes(I can totally remember the smell and I feel like gagging right now), to cooperate with people who are totally opposites. I hated OBS on the first day, eating dry rations and sleeping in smelly tents, and I hated it even more on day 3, the land expedition day as we had to trek for the entire day carrying bombass heavy backpacks and 3 litres of water and food, through forests with swarms of mosquitoes that feasted on you immediately should you stop walking. We couldn't even bathe after trekking and that sucked hell lot. People were crying and my resolve wavered just a little bit after seeing them. I felt like giving up and go home and just forget about the whole thing. But I knew it was a cowardly thought and was determined to pull through the most horrible day of my life.
Day 4-sea expedition was a blast. We kayaked the whole day through mangrove swamps for the entire morning, and then moved on to the sea in the afternoon back to base camp. It's kind of exciting to kayak through mangroves actually. There's always the thrill of paddling off course and getting stuck in hanging mangrove roots. Nah actually I prefer hearing other people scream their way out and instructor Hairi splashing water on the screaming people:D We had to cross four portages and our watch just cooperated. It was, as Hairi says, the highest point of the five days in OBS, as we laughed and shouted and sang together despite aching arms and bursting bladders to achieve the final goal as a watch. I REFUSE to pee in the seaD: Ugh. P.S and despite getting hit on my ear, arm, mouth, and shoulders by the stupid kayak paddle for FIVE times by different people. How unlucky can I get please. My mouth is still sore over the cruel blow):
Regardless of how uncooperative Barker has been on other days, I think we do rock in some ways still. At least we realised our mistakes and understand it's our mission "to serve to strive and not to yield"! And like, Hairi was more open to us and gosh, I didn't know he could SHOUT!(:
For me, I have learnt my stronger points through OBS like how much endurance and perseverance I have, and my weaknesses. The group reflections kind of helped actually, no matter how much I hate to share:/ I'll never ever throw away the reflections, the cert, the group photo, the shirts, the notebooks, and never ever forget my very own OBS adventure.
Cos it's a once in a life time thing.
Ivan: Whatever cat!
Cheryl: Yeah, it's okay. There's no point in getting frustrated just cos you've got phlegm, cos I still havent recovered from my stupid cough!
