Band was so satisfying today. I think mainly because trombones finally got a tutor:D I learnt quite alot from him today, like to breathe in really deep until every cell is filled with oxygen(haha, joking) and to sustain the low notes, and our section finally could produce the zingy trademark sound of trombones! No kidding, we sounded awesome! Loud and blasty enough to make Mr Koh abit deaf he claims. But that's good enough for us;D
First we did B flat chromatically down and he pointed out all the problems we had, like how I don't breathe properly and deeply. Funniest was Cheryl, she kept playing her trombone to one side which is a bad habit according to him. And then we did the projection exercise, he stuffed cloth into our bells and we had to breathe in lots of air and push it out with air. We sounded like cows with the cloth heh. Leanne was the one who could push the cloth out first. 佩服佩服! So I got more motivated and managed to blast the cloth out. Hah. In the end I think all of us blasted the cloth out and our sound improved by leaps and bounds! That zing was in there in every single note, and it was so freaking loud! SO so proud of our section:D Mr Koh mostly talked about good techniques after that, and showed us how to apply slide oil(?). Aiya, means the small and big bottle of stuff for our slides la! Say bye to slide cream and dirty hands! Oh, and he mentioned practising our trombones everyday cos one can feel the difference if one does not play for just one day and everyone can tell that person has not practised if that person has not played for two days.o.o Then he suggested borrowing home the mouthpiece to practise while doing math homework. Haha. Janine said the saliva would drip on us and he said "what you're scared of your own saliva? Well I'm not, I swallow it everyday." HAHA! Good one!
After that we joined the band for combined. Urgh, I need to brush up on my Overture one, I'm abit rusty after not playing for almost one month. The stress is there that I'm the only trombone playing what I'm playing!! Must get it right on SYF! Then die fledermaus and we tried with the fast tempo. Was disastrous at the first attempt:/ We'll all aim to sound like the imeem die fledermaus! Wenyuan if you're reading this thank me cos I reminded you to listen to it;D
